It is in the same language family as Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil and, like them, is agglutinative, which means it can add multiple suffixes to a root to refine meaning. This can result in very long words! The Dravidian vocabulary which makes up most of Telugu is embellished by Sanskrit and English.
